Indicative Content

1. To develop skills in graphics technology.
2. Techniques and skills to develop interfaces for multimedia, 3D models, the Internet and television captions.
3. Knowledge of colour modes, image, acquisition, basic compression (DCT), print, pixel based image manipulation.
4. Introduce the relevant mathematical theories (number systems, fixed points, algebra, matrices, 2D space, 2D vectors and discrete maths).
5. Introduction of neighbourhood processing.

Learning Strategies

Student learning is centred around one 12 hour lecture and 12 two hour laboratory sessions. (1:n)1 (1:30)2
Learning on all aspects of the content will be facilitated by lectures and tutorials, problem solving exercises and student centred learning.
Practical assignments using laboratory equipment and a simulation package will support the learning.

Prospectus Information

Digital images are one of the fundamental aspects to the New Media industry. In this module students will learn the technical and creative mix of skills required to create and design skill images for a variety of outputs such as print, web, 3D and Television. They will also learn image compression theory, colour theory, page layout and typography skills.
