You know those films that are difficult to watch, not because they are bad films, but because they are so similar to something that has happened, or is currently happening to you. I'm not talking about some weak, barely tangible connection, such as getting a paper cut so a film like saw really relates to you. Nor am I saying that the film has to be an autobiography.
Today has been one of the hottest days of the 2011 year, and it is predicted to be just as hot for the next week. So I am going to take this opportunity to write about a film that I have watched many times. The Weather Man, it's a fantastic but under rated Nick Cage film that I am not sure many people have seen.
Open Water is a film I have been meaning to watch for a while. It is potentially a perfect film for me, it has Indie roots, whilst being very creative and having mass appeal as a thriller. And in a lot of ways it is a very good film. It definitely shows what is possible with such a small budget. The film follows two holiday makers, who are trying to escape the busy world that they are used to, to spend some quality time together. The are enjoying the holiday, and make plans to go diving.
Well I just finished watching City Rats and feel a bit disappointed. I possibly had the wrong idea of a film that was staring Danny Dyre and Tamer Hassan, both of which have built a reputation around the cheeky cockney gangster film genre. This however was a complet tangent to those films, despite still featuring drugs, guns and prostitution. It was a character driven look at the lives of 6 or so people within London.
Right, so I just got back from the cinema after seeing Clash of the Titans in 2D. After seeing the teaser trailer, which looks and sounds great, I was looking forward to the film. I did have a few concerns that the trailer would show all of the best bits of the film, and that it would also rely very heavily on visual effects, which can be amazing or seriously unpleasant to look at if done wrong. Sadly my concerns were merited.
Tomorrow is the two week mark after injuring my other knee. It has been slowly getting better, which has made me think about the last time I had a knee problem. I felt completely isolated, and at the same time useless. It is incredibly frustrating for someone who considers themselves to be an independent person, to rely on others to take me places, wait for me to catch up, and not be able to go and do anything I want, anytime I want. It is not that I am ungrateful to all those that have helped me in the past and in the last two weeks, in fact I don't think I would have coped without them.
It has been a while since I have written on here. Mainly due to how much has been going on recently. I now find myself with more time on my hands then I care for, but I will start from the top.
I don't know whether it is my aversion to MSN, or that I am just old before my time, but text speech really annoys me. Text speech has ground from the use of abbreviations, into using various letters and number combinations to represent complete inane and unrelated words or sentences. People started this to prevent using another text to send just the one or two characters that were needed for the complete message, but it has since turned into an almost fluid language for some people.
Seth MacFarlane and team are at it again, with a 1 hour long episode, re-enacting the second or firth (depending on how you look at it) Star Wars film The Empire Strikes Back, in the comical style that we have come to expect from the Griffin family. This one is going to be called Something, Something, Something, Darkside.
Last night was a good evening despite the 2 hours of film travisty that was The Forth Kind. After ignoring the poor reviews of the film on various sites and a more then shocking radio advert, I was still very happy to be going out and meeting up with some great people who I hadn't seen in ages.
